INBETWEEN:HIDDEN SPACES Shelf of Curiosities 2 – ART:SCIENCE:LIFE-Ipswich Museum residency

Description

425 cm long, pen on paper.
This piece was inspired by suggestions made by visitor services and includes the objects in stores, in the conservation lab and objects that are hidden or overlooked. Placed with Shelf of Curiosities 1 this piece is over 8 metres long.

Art:Science:Life was a three month residency at Ipswich Museum funded by the ACE. The project involved collecting the hidden and unnoticed things that make this Victorian museum mysterious and magical. The focus is on the sounds of the museum, the ambient and digital noises. The objects were chosen by visitor services who shared thoughts and insights into the more hidden and unusual objects that were sometimes missed. Other objects include the essential things that are in between the more obvious artefacts. The thoughts, objects and sounds of the museum were brought together to create a site specific audio visual installation commission, on exhibition in the Ipswich Art School Gallery from February – May 2016
